Week 6
10 weeks to go... Did my longest run ever this morning - 18 miles. Did 3-12 with Michael and it was nice to have company . The route I had worked out had a couple of big hills and several more longer but less steep ones so my legs and bum are really complaining now! The last 6 I did on my own and was fine up until the last 2 when my legs started to really tire. The last mile seemed to go on FOREVER! I got back and walked around the kitchen (didn't dare sit down in case I couldn't get up again ) wondering how on earth I would be ready to run another 8 miles on top of that. But, when I think about it sensibly, I have only ever done three 16 mile runs and 16 today was easy so maybe after I have done my 20s I will feel better about the distance. Speed was okay - did it in 2:40 averaging 8:54 which I am pleased with. I tried the easy tempo / hard interval thing this week and that also worked well. Wasn't quite sure what an easy tempo run would look like so I did a shorter distance at fast tempo then another mile or so at slightly slower speed. My intervals this week were really good. I did 6 x 800m with 200m recovery. Three of them were at sub 7 pace (one was even 6:46!) and the other 3 were just over. It was getting dark by that point though so I had to slow down to avoid breaking my ankle in the pottholes on the track I use. My easy 3 miles of parkrun on Saturday morning turned out to be not quite so easy as Kara did a fantastic 27:53 time averaging 9 minute miles. Really proud of her! Less miles this week due to having to be at work late twice this week and it will be the same for the next two weeks, but am trying to move things around to get the miles in. Total: 39.68
